About Pop for a Cause

We're a multi-school organization of passionate high school students from Montgomery County, Maryland, united by our mission to create positive change in our community.

Our Mission

To empower high school students across Montgomery County to make a meaningful impact in their community through innovative fundraising, while developing leadership skills and fostering a spirit of social responsibility. We believe that young people have the power to create positive change, one kernel at a time.

Our Vision

To become a model for youth-led social enterprises across the country, inspiring other young people to identify creative solutions to community challenges and demonstrating that age is not a barrier to making a significant difference in the world.

Our Story

In 2020, high school student Amanda Kossoff launched a popcorn company with a powerful purpose: to pop and sell popcorn while donating 100% of the profits to charitable causes. What began in her home kitchen during the pandemic quickly gained momentum as friends, family, and community members rallied around her mission to give back — one kernel at a time.

By 2022, as Amanda headed off to college, her legacy of popcorn with a purpose continued to grow. Sahasra Ramreddola stepped up to carry the torch, helping expand the initiative to multiple high schools and empowering more students to get involved. Together, they proved that young people can create meaningful change — with creativity, compassion, and a little bit of popcorn.

What started as a single-school initiative has grown into a multi-school organization with chapters across Montgomery County including Poolesville, Northwest, Quince Orchard, Seneca Valley, Walt Whitman, Watkins Mill, Thomas S. Wootton, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Richard Montgomery, and Our Lady of Good Counsel. Each chapter brings its own unique strengths while working together toward our common mission.

Since our launch, we've grown to 43 active student leaders across ten schools, raised more than $25,000 for local charities, and participated in over 50 community events. Our success has proven that young people can create substantial positive change when they collaborate across schools and communities.
